Former Formula One Champion Michael Schumacher has left a Swiss hospital and will continue his recovery at home, his manager Sabine Kehm said Tuesday.

Seven time Formula One Race Car Championship winner Michael Schumacher’s manager Sabine Kehm issued a statement this afternoon confirming rumours in the German media that Schumacher, who was severely injured in a skiing accident in December 2013 is finally well enough to leave Lausanne Hospital and return home to continue his recovery.  Schumacher's family said in June that he had come out of a medically induced coma to reduce swelling in his brain.

Ms Kehm said in a statement: "Henceforth, Michael's rehabilitation will take place at his home.

"Considering the severe injuries he suffered, progress has been made in the past weeks and months.

"There is still, however, a long and difficult road ahead.

"We would like to extend our gratitude to the entire team at CHUV Lausanne for their thorough and competent work.

All of us here at Russells Transport wish Michael Schumacher a speedy recovery.

Michael Schumacher, born 3 January 1969 is a retired German F1 race car driver. Schumacher is a seven-time Formula One race car (F1) World Champion and is widely regarded as one of the greatest F1 race car drivers of all time. Schumacher was named Laureus World Sportsman of the Year twice.
