Tourist entry exports
Customs paperwork can be one more bump in the road when planning a driving tour or vacation. Leave it to us.
But, what is an ATA carnet?
Like a travel visa for your goods.
Customs jargon and process, explained:
What exactly is it?
An ATA carnet refers to an international customs document that allows for a duty-free, tax-free import of goods for up to one year. They are recognized by a number of countries and substantially simplify customs procedures.
What kind of goods require an ATA carnet?
Commercial samples, professional equipment, and goods for trade fairs and exhibitions all need it last?
How does it work?
They’re issued by an Authorized Chamber of Commerce or similar organisation to streamline the customs process and reduce delays and are valid in a number of countries.
What is a re-export guarantee?
Like our own travel visas, an ATA carnet is temporary and generally only good for up to one year. They serve as a guarantee that this particular good will be re-exported within a certain timeframe, and they’ll keep you from having to pay duties and taxes a second time, when you move the goods back to their country of origin.

Tourist entry exports
UK-registered vehicles temporarily exported to Europe under “tourist entry” are often moved using a T1 customs transit document, allowing them to enter the EU without immediate payment of duties or VAT.
This process provides temporary clearance, enabling vehicles to be used within the EU for a limited period—typically for events, shows, or demonstrations—before being re-exported. The T1 document ensures customs control is maintained throughout the journey, with discharge required at the point of exit or re-entry into the UK. This method is ideal for short-term, non-commercial use and must comply with specific EU temporary admission conditions.
